One Fan's Season Predictions

With that enormous game in Arlington closing in on us, we all start to run down the schedule in our minds and place the W's and L's next to each game. Here is how I see the season shaping up:

Saturday Sep. 5th
Oklahoma
Arlington, TX (Cowboys Stadium)
5:00pm

Sam Bradford's new offensive line has no problem protecting their QB and the Cougars fail to get stops on third down. Hope for a strong year remains, but Bronco remains without a signature non-conference win in his era.
BYU- 20 OU- 34
(0-1)

SaturdaySep. 12th
Tulane
New Orleans, LA
1:30pm

With the Cougars desperate for a bounce back win, they struggle to get past a feisty Tulane team playing at home. While things get scary in the third quarter, Unga and the running game get going late to push BYU past Tulane. The score doesn't tell the whole story.

BYU-37 Tulane-24
(1-1)

SaturdaySep. 19th
Florida State
Provo
5:00pm

The biggest game of 2009!! BYU proves it belongs with the big boys. Reminders of UCLA come early in this one with BYU jumping on the Seminoles quickly, 17-0 after 1. The ACC power gains momentum, but a late third quarter touchdown from Hall to Jacobsen secures an enormous home win that sets the stage for the remainder of the season.

BYU- 38 FSU- 27
(2-1)

SaturdaySep. 26th
Colorado State
Provo
4:00pm

MWC season opens for BYU at the LES. Do I need to say more? BYU breaks out offensively and CSU struggles mightily to regain its former glory.

BYU- 52 CSU- 21
(3-1)

FridayOct. 2nd
Utah State
Provo
7:00pm

Logan High comes in breathing fire after losing their future Riley Nelson to the Cougs. Blow a little harder Aggies, this one is over early.

BYU- 49 USU-10
(4-1)

SaturdayOct. 10th
UNLV
Las Vegas, NV
8:00pm

A difficult test awaits BYU in the desert. UNLV comes into this one playing good football and looks for that program changing victory against their rivals from the north. While UNLV has made significant strides, BYU is just too much for the Rebels. Close early, Cougs late!

BYU- 35 UNLV-20
(5-1)

SaturdayOct. 17th
San Diego State
San Diego, CA
4:00pm

Look, it's SDSU. How do you not recruit to San Diego? Well, they still haven't!

BYU- 42 SDSU-19
(6-1)

SaturdayOct. 24th
TCU
Provo
5:30pm

TCU comes into this one unbeaten and geared towards busting the BCS. Low scoring affair that has the Horned Frogs forcing turnovers and getting huge stops. Maximus turns into a goat in this one throwing 3 int's. As much as it pains me to say it, Frogs in OT by a field goal. Sounds eerily familiar!

BYU-13 TCU 16 OT
(6-2)

SaturdayNov. 7th
Wyoming
Laramie, WY
12:00pm

With disappointment still showing from the TCU game BYU struggles through a sluggish first half. Bronco's halftime speech gets the Cougars refocused and in the end BYU handles the Pokes quite easily.

BYU- 41 WYOMING- 21
(7-2)

SaturdayNov. 14th
New Mexico
Albuquerque, NM
12:00pm

Other than the FSU game, BYU plays as well as it has all season. New Mexico is shell-shocked by an offense running on all cylinders. Chambers has a huge game and Hall throws for over 400 yards against the Lobos. BYU is officially back on track!

BYU- 52 NM- 14
(8-2)

SaturdayNov. 21st
Air Force
Provo
1:30pm

With the Holy War looming, BYU comes out in this one with something to prove. As always, Bronco has the Falcons figured out and they struggle mightily to gain yards on the ground. After taking an early lead, AFA resorts to throwing the football and we all know they're screwed when that happens.

BYU- 45 AFA- 17
(9-2)

SaturdayNov. 28th
Utah
Provo
3:00pm

The Yewts come in with their usual swagger. While coming onto the field, they head across towards the BYU team and marvel at the HAKA which they are too uncoordinated to do. No more close games in Provo. No more miracles at the end. This one is reminiscent of 96 with the Cougars scoring at will and punching the UTES square in the jaw, time and time again. Hall and his fellow seniors are carried off the field in jubilation. The only downfall- VEGAS AGAIN to play the 6-6 UCLA Bruins. That's OK because the UTES are headed to San Diego to beat another team that has to travel across the country and doesn't want to be there. TCU wins the conference and busts into the BCS!

BYU-41 UTAH- 20
(10-2)

This is just how I see it. I hope and pray that I am wrong and BYU busts into the BCS. But to be honest, I am in between a realist and a pessimist when it comes to Cougar Football!

now this is what im talkin about. what a GREAT post! Thanks Dunc for your view on how the season will go. I too hope that it is wrong, but we all know that we are talking about BYU football. I have the cougars going undefeated in conference play, but with a loss in the season opener(11-1). Go COUGS!!! More great post to come.
